Our photographers are committed daily to documenting the activities of the Holy Father and of the most important Authorities of the Holy See.
The archivists look after the immense patrimony of images.
Those in charge of the sector open to the public see to sale and research of the pictures requested by customers.
Our laboratory ensures the high quality photochemical print of each photo.
Information technologists provide for the installation, maintenance, coordination and net connections, both internal and external, of all the computers present.
The staff in charge e-mails maintain contact with the customers throughout the world and seek to satisfy their various requests.
THE ARCHIVES
The archives are divided into three large sectors:
1. The Giordani Collection:
includes the negatives (in various formats) from 1930 to 1975, mainly in black/white,
contained in numbered boxes, plus large notebooks which provide information
on the events and people photographed, with reference to the respective boxes.
The total number amounts to approximately 500,000 shots.
2. The John Paul II Collection: every moment of the Pontiff’s activity
is documented: from his election to his death and his funeral, his travels,
audiences, morning Masses in the Papal Apartments…Some are on black/white
film, others are coloured. The photos amount to about 5,000,000.
3. The Benedict XVI Archives are mainly in digital format. Consequently, they
are contained in a long series of DVDS which increases day by day.
